(Minghui.org) To mark the 27th anniversary of the April 25 appeal in Beijing, Falun Dafa practitioners held a rally in front of the Chinese Consulate in Montreal on April 21, 2026. They protested the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution and called on the Canadian government to help stop the CCP’s transnational repression.

Addressing the rally in English, French, and Chinese, practitioners recalled the April 25 appeal and condemned the CCP’s 27-year persecution.

“For 27 years, the CCP has arrested, tortured, and killed practitioners, and even conducted state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting. The CCP has also extended the persecution to other countries,” one practitioner said.

They called on the Canadian government to condemn the CCP’s persecution, take a clear stand, and take action to stop the CCP’s transnational repression in Canada. They also called on the Chinese Consulate staff to quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations.

Why Is Transnational Repression Relevant to Canadians?

The speakers pointed out that the CCP’s transnational repression violates Canadian sovereignty. When foreign governments threaten, intimidate, or even illegally establish “police stations” on Canadian soil to exert authority over local residents, they are, in effect, attempting to enforce foreign laws within Canada.

If a foreign state can bypass Canada’s legal system and directly “enforce the law” on the streets of Montreal or Toronto, then Canada’s sovereignty is fundamentally undermined. Conduct that targets a specific faith community today, could, tomorrow, be directed at any Canadian who is perceived as conflicting with that foreign state’s interests.
Transnational repression also erodes community trust and social cohesion, introduces violence and organized crime into otherwise law-abiding societies, and interferes with democratic processes, including elections.

People Who Witnessed the April 25 Appeal Saw Hope for China

Ms. Wang said that when she visited a friend shortly after the April 25 appeal, her friend’s father gave her a thumbs up and said excitedly, “I saw Falun Dafa practitioners. It’s amazing.”

He said that when he went to Beijing to visit his mother, whose house was near the State Council Appeal Office, he saw practitioners lining the street. He said, “I walked from the beginning of the line to the end. People of various ages stood quietly. That scene was amazing.”

He said he was surprised to learn that the issue was resolved that evening and so many people left quietly. When he talked with his brother in Beijing, they discussed that many Chinese people were disappointed after the June 4 massacre (the student massacre on Tiananmen Square), but they saw hope for China after witnessing the practitioners’ appeal and the government’s initial response.

People Are Moved by the Event

Passersby were moved by the peaceful rally and many said they supported practitioners in their efforts to bring an end to the persecution.

Mia, who is a student, and her friend signed the petition. Mia said, “I find this peaceful protest truly beautiful. Everyone stood quietly, holding banners and handing out flyers, and they told us about the persecution. You expressed your message in a way that commands genuine respect. I sincerely hope more people take notice of this issue and step forward to sign, to support you.”

Another student, Steve, said he signed last year. “I always support you. You are truly remarkable for making people aware of the persecution taking place. People should pay attention to this matter, and the persecution must be stopped.”

John said this was the first time he’d heard about the CCP’s persecution. He signed the petition without hesitation and said, “I oppose this persecution. It is truly heartbreaking. I support you.”

Another resident, Drent, was happy to see practitioners and immediately signed the petition. He said he knew that practitioners follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and are persecuted and even have their organs harvested. He said while signing the petition, “I completely support you.”
