(Minghui.org) A Siping City, Jilin Province, man remains detained for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Zhang Yinsen was arrested around February 7, 2026, ten days before the Chinese New Year. He was supposed to meet with a relative that day, but never showed up. The relative called him, but no one picked up the phone. The relative went to his home that night and noted the police had raided the place.
The relative went to local police stations and other government agencies to inquire about his whereabouts. They all denied having any knowledge of his case. The relative eventually found out he was being held at a local detention center.
Mr. Zhang is not the only person in his family who has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong. His father, Mr. Zhang Xihou, and mother, Ms. Feng Xiulan, were repeatedly arrested and given forced labor terms. His younger sister, Ms. Zhang Ying, served five labor terms.
Mr. Zhang Yinsen took up Falun Gong in June 1997 and recovered from enteritis. After the persecution began in July 1999, he held firm to his faith and was incarcerated for a total of 13 years prior to his most recent arrest.
Mr. Zhang went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in 2000 and was arrested. The police beat him so badly that he struggled to breathe. After he was taken back to Jilin, he was held at the Siping City Lockup. The guards ordered him to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. He refused to comply, and they wrote for him. He was then given one year of forced labor and transferred to the Siping City Labor Camp.
Inmate Fu Guojun once beat Mr. Zhang for over one hour. Guard Lyu then took him to a conference room and tied him up in a bed. Except for meal times and restroom breaks, he remained restrained in the bed. This tying up torture lasted six straight days.
On another occasion, the guards tied up Mr. Zhang’s hands and feet and gagged him. They then pressed him down on a bed and beat him with clubs. He had blood everywhere on his body. As soon as his wounds healed, they beat him again. His undergarments stuck together due to the bleeding. He remained firm in his faith and was denied family visits for three months. When his family was finally allowed to visit him, he was still unable to walk normally and had wounds all over his body.
Ms. Zhang was sentenced to five years in 2002 and admitted to the Jilin Province Prison. He was subjected to constant beatings and verbal abuse. The guards also put him under strict management, with several inmates watching him around the clock. He was not allowed to talk to others, eat, or use the restroom. In 2005, he was transferred to the Tiebei Prison. The guards there did not allow his family to visit him. They later relented upon the family’s strong protest and allowed his mother to see him.
After the live organ harvesting crime was exposed to the world in April 2006, Mr. Zhang was transferred to the Gongzhuling Prison, where he served the remainder of his term.
Mr. Zhang was arrested on July 27, 2010, and taken to a brainwashing center located in the Dongshan Police Academy. Around August 5 that year, his parents, both nearly 80, went to demand his release, but to no avail. Under the directive of Wang Lihong (vice head of the Siping City 610 Office, instructor Chang Hong, and Yu Jianchun from the Tiexi District Domestic Security Office pried open Mr. Zhang’s home when no one was home. They confiscated his computer, CD burner, and other valuables. After that, they moved him to the local detention center. He was released after an unknown amount of time.
Mr. Zhang was sentenced to seven years in early 2012 and admitted to the Gongzhuling Prison. He was denied family visits during his entire imprisonment.
On May 17, 2012, the guards put Mr. Zhang in the strict management team and subjected him to various forms of torture. He, along with practitioners Mr. Zhao Guoxing, Mr. Fu Hongwei, and Mr. Yang Chunman, was restrained in a bed with their limbs tied up for nearly one month. The guards also shocked them with electric batons.
Another time, instructor Lyu Chuanbao and inmate Wu Qi hung Mr. Zhang up and shocked him on the head and body with electric batons for one hour. He was unable to lift his arms for three months.
Mr. Zhang was also forced to sit on a small stool for long hours every day for over a year.
