Supermarket Manager: “Beyond What I Was Expecting”

Julie Mantle, a supermarket general manager, saw Shen Yun with her 13-year-old son, Aiden Mantle-Wang, in Kitchener, Canada, on March 24.
“It was beyond what I was expecting. Obviously, the integration with the backdrop, and then also the music, the dance, the performances, the outfits--just sensational. It was absolutely outstanding. I wasn’t prepared for just how monumental this performance was,” Ms. Mantle said.
“What struck me the most was just when we took ourselves from a communist China to before, I didn’t have a full understanding of the history of the freedoms that the Chinese people were experiencing. And then just what communism meant to China. And then at the end of the day, just to see us and our freedoms, our religious freedoms here in North America.
“It just really touched me to be part of something that is a movement that is more than just about dance. It’s about freedom for all throughout the world. I brought my 13-year-old son with me today. He’s half Chinese. It’s so impactful for him. He’s never been to China, but for him to understand that his history and culture is so meaningful for us,” she said.
Aiden said, “I think that it’s just so amazing how it started 20 years ago as one company in New York. And now it’s all across the world with its eight companies. I think it’s an amazing thing, just what it teaches, and it's an amazing lesson.
“It just shows that even when people try to suppress the people, the people can always prevail, and they can show in other countries and show what tradition is. That’s what I think is amazing.”
Ms. Mantle said, “We’re seeing war throughout the world. We’re seeing individuals still suffering persecution. We’re seeing that freedom is being taken away. Salvation through God, our almighty Creator, is the meaning. We really appreciate the fact that this task was taken on and that they’re continuing to take this message throughout the world.
“Thank you so much for being brave enough to launch this revival and this cause, and thank you to all the actors, actresses, the dancers, and the orchestra--absolutely outstanding.”
Aiden said, “I really recommend it. I think learning about international history is very important, because there are lots and lots of lessons, and just for them to understand what happened to the Chinese people. And then what they’re doing now. I think it’s an amazing story, and I think it needs to be heard.”
Australian City Councilor: “A Triumph of the Human Spirit”
Jess Diaz (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)
Blacktown City Councilor Jess Diaz saw Shen Yun in Sydney, Australia, on March 27. This was the second time he had seen Shen Yun. “The show is really, really good. It’s so exhilarating, and it’s so fresh,” he said.
Mr. Diaz was especially moved by the spiritual element of the performance, as well as the story-based dance that raised awareness of the ongoing persecution of people of faith by the Chinese Communist Party in present-day China: “I really like [the story about] the modern [world] because it’s a good adaptation. This is something new.
“It looks to me like a triumph of the human spirit. It’s like the merging of the human and the divine. So very well portrayed in terms of what’s happened in the world today.
“It’s a good reminder of what can be done. And if you persist, if you do it through the hard work of this humanity of ours, and as I said, merging with the divine, with faith, you can conquer all.
“We must not forget the traditional values,” he added, “because that sustains us, sustains the world, and we’re going to be saved by this traditional spirit. Shen Yun is a triumph of tradition—the traditional spirit that must sustain the world. This is [why] we have to come, again and again.”
Professor of Law: “It Made Me Very Emotional”
Augusto Zimmermann (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)
Professor of Law and Foundation Dean Augusto Zimmermann saw Shen Yun in Sydney on March 26.
“It was absolutely amazing, one of the best shows I have ever watched in my whole life,” Mr. Zimmerman said.
“It’s teaching us the history and culture of the Chinese people, and also, unfortunately, the sufferings that they have to endure at this very moment.”
Mr. Zimmerman was especially moved by the artists’ depiction of heaven and traditional Chinese spirituality: “It really changed me, it made me very emotional.
“I think it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever experienced in my whole life, especially when the singer was connecting the whole culture with the Creator, and the importance of the Divine in our lives. That really touched my heart a lot, and I felt very emotional about what I watched. It was fantastic,” he said.
“I think everybody should watch [Shen Yun] to feel touched by the message. The message is very important in this day and age, where there’s so much despair and so much suffering. We can see that the Chinese have a legacy to give to us—a legacy of liberty, a legacy of freedom, a mandate of heaven for us to live a godly, happy life.”
Reflecting on reported threats made against Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the theater at the time of the artists’ arrival in Australia, Mr. Zimmerman said that such challenges only reinforce the need to “overcome evil with good.”
He said Shen Yun “must be congratulated on their fantastic achievements. From now on, I will be an unconditional supporter of this show. I wish all the actors all the best because they are doing the right thing. They are making our lives much more exciting as a result.”
The show was “unforgettable and magnificent, and I will never forget what I watched.”
Forensic Pathologist: “The Essence of Life”
José Rodolfo Muñoz Herazo (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)
José Rodolfo Muñoz Herazo, a forensic pathologist and consultant, saw Shen Yun in Seville, Spain, on March 26.
“I was inspired, because the performance, to a certain degree, was inviting us to return to our origins,” he said.
“It manifested the essence of life. When the performance talked about the deep meaning of human nature, such as the meaning of life, it conveyed a profound and philosophical message. Shen Yun successfully conveyed it,” he said.
He described the performance’s depiction of the ongoing persecution as “a gentle but firm way to expose it.” Regarding the forced organ harvesting portrayed on stage, he said, “Considering my field as a doctor, I can’t help but think that this is an ethical and bioethical issue. I can hardly believe that this is happening. In other words, people probably did not want to believe it at first, but ... with the performance, you would realize that all this still truly exists,” he said.
Photographer: “Shen Yun Is Delivering Happiness”

Photographer Javier Jiménez González saw Shen Yun in Seville on March 26.
“Shen Yun is delivering happiness. The moment the curtain opened and seeing those wonderful colors and clouds on the floor, I was stunned. Every scene of Shen Yun had its own unique charm. Every segment brought a pleasant surprise,” he said.
“In society nowadays, there are almost no performances that only deliver happiness, color, and joy. Even the commercials have become dark and heavy. Only Shen Yun is filled with light and colors. This is what I like the most. Those dancers who seemed to be floating in the air did not seem to make any sound when they landed. Were they flying?”
Professional Flamenco Dancer: “Their Joy and Serenity Are Remarkable”

Television producer Clochu Moreno Martínez and professional flamenco dancer Irene Judas Cruz saw Shen Yun in Seville on March 24.
“We absolutely loved it! It was my Christmas gift for her, and we are both delighted. She told me we had to see Shen Yun—it’s incredible, and you will not regret [seeing] it,” Mr. Moreno Martínez said.
Ms. Judas Cruz was immediately struck by the Shen Yun dancers’ unique style: “I loved the way the dancers move—it’s completely different from anything else. Their movements are soft, precise, and perfectly arranged. The orchestra’s oriental music is beautiful, and every movement flows with it. Watching them is a total mental and visual escape.”
She noted that the performers radiate happiness and tranquility. “Even as flamenco dancers, we are taught to maintain inner calm, but Shen Yun artists elevate it. Their joy and serenity are remarkable,” she said.
“The female dancers have extraordinary flexibility; the male dancers’ leaps and spins are difficult. It’s clear they train tirelessly—every day, every month, every year—even when others are on vacation. Watching them motivates me to practice harder. It’s extremely demanding but incredibly beautiful, and when you achieve it, you feel proud,” she said.
“The opening with long-sleeved dances and divine beings descending from heaven was breathtaking,” Mr. Moreno Martínez recalled. “It’s a completely different dance form and presentation—unique but highly professional.”
Ms. Judas Cruz added, “The dancers tell different stories in segments, and you understand each part without words. It’s beautiful. You can see their devotion, calm meditation, and teamwork—a very humble culture expressed through art.”
Mr. Moreno Martínez emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and cross-cultural understanding as he noted they cannot perform in China, “which makes witnessing it here even more important. Shen Yun offers a window into a culture that may seem distant but deserves our understanding. Art is a means of expressing emotions, freedom, and truth; everyone should have the chance to express themselves.”
Reflecting on the broader lessons of the performance, Ms. Judas Cruz said, “Shen Yun inspires patience, tolerance, calmness, and trust—trust in yourself, in your beliefs, and in others. That kind of love and understanding is often missing in our society.”
Both of them intend to share the experience widely. “I will tell everyone to come with an open heart and mind,” Ms. Judas Cruz said. “Be willing to experience something extraordinary—different music, movement, and emotions. That’s what makes Shen Yun unforgettable.”
Mr. Moreno Martínez concluded, “I am amazed, delighted and full of admiration for the artists. Congratulations to them, and I hope they continue bringing this performance to audiences around the world.”
Fresco Artist: “It’s Very Inspiring and Uplifting”
Charles Snell (Screenshot courtesy of NTD)
Fresco artist Charles Snell saw Shen Yun in Swansea, the UK, on March 25.
“It’s lovely to see something at that level of high quality,” he said.
Accompanied by his three children and father-in-law, he added that the performance offered a particularly inspiring example for young people pursuing the arts: “Seeing people performing at that level is great. It’s very inspiring and uplifting,” especially for those with a background in ballet and performance.
Mr. Snell also appreciated the show’s presentation of traditional Chinese culture. “It was definitely eye-opening,” he said. “There’s nowhere really in British culture you can learn things like this unless you really go looking for it.”
He reflected on the deeper values conveyed through the performance, emphasizing the importance of recognizing one’s inner gifts: “Everyone has a gift that they can share with the world. People forget that.”
The spiritual dimension of the performance left a strong impression on Mr. Snell, who said, “It gives you a sense of elevation. It kind of reminds you that you have a soul—and it’s beautiful to watch.”
Mr. Snell was particularly moved by the resilience of the human spirit that was conveyed on stage: “You can’t really get to someone’s soul. You can try to suppress someone’s spirit for a long time, but eventually it will come through. Because your soul is divine—you can’t touch that.”
Mr. Snell also commended the baritone’s performance and the simple, poetic lyrics that he said carried a profound message. “I liked the idea in the song—the simple message about a Creator. That’s something that’s kind of missing in our culture—the idea that you have a soul and live according to that.”
“Congratulations—amazing,” he said. “I would recommend people to go and see it.”
