(Minghui.org) Ms. Huang Xiangui, 83, who lives in Lechang City, Guangdong Province, became incapacitated while serving a five-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong. The prison authorities still made her complete the sentence.
Ms. Huang was healthy before her last arrest on April 5, 2019, because she practices Falun Gong. The abuse she suffered in prison damaged her health. She developed various symptoms and suffered from vision loss and insomnia. She became bedridden in early 2025 but the prison authorities refused to release her on parole. Her local street committee picked her up on April 5, 2026, when her term ended. They dropped her off at home and left her unattended despite her condition.
Ms. Huang’s husband died on August 29, 2019, two months after their daughter Ms. Chen Pingzhen was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Chen was later sentenced to five years, and her loved ones were not told where she was imprisoned. Her term should have expired in August 2024, but her whereabouts remain unknown.
Prior to her latest prison term, Ms. Huang was repeatedly targeted for her faith. She was sentenced to four years in prison in 2001. Officers Han Guangjun and Cui Zixiang from the Pingnan Police Station arrested her at home on October 10, 2007. When her family went to the police station to seek her release, one officer dared them to sue the police.
Ms. Huang was transferred to the Sanshui Labor Camp on November 19, 2007 to serve an unknown term. She was later detained for 15 days twice, in 2015 and 2019.
Her latest arrest was preceded by an arrest in early April 2020. She was released on bail on December 3 that year. The Lechang City Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant for her on April 6, 2021, and she was taken back into custody that day. The Lechang City Court sentenced her to five years and fined her 10,000 yuan in late August 2021. Her appeal was rejected by the Shaoguan City Intermediate Court on December 3, 2021.
