(Minghui.org) A woman in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was admitted to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison on April 20, 2026, to serve a 1.5-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Meng Xianfang, around 64, was arrested on March 2, 2025, and sentenced to one and a half years by the Ganjingzi District Court on September 2. The Dalian City Intermediate Court denied her appeal on December 25, 2025.
Ms. Meng’s brother, Mr. Meng Xianqi, visited her at the detention center on April 14, 2026. A guard told him that his sister was set to be transferred to the Liaoning Province Women’s Prison in ten days. He expected to receive an official notice from the prison but never did. He went to the detention center again in early May and learned that his sister had been admitted to the prison on April 20.
Given the prison’s track record of abusing Falun Gong practitioners, Mr. Meng, in his late 60s, suspects that the prison authorities intentionally neglected to notify him of his sister’s admission because she holds firm to her faith and refuses to admit any wrongdoing.
An officer surnamed Mai summoned Mr. Meng to the local street committee office in early May 2026 to have his picture taken. He refused to comply. Mai was unable to get a headshot of Mr. Meng but managed to get a profile shot.
The continued harassment of Mr. Meng has been due to his persistent efforts to seek justice for his sister. He was previously detained for ten days (May 12-22, 2025) for urging the police to release his sister. After he was released, officer Mai ordered him to report to the local street committee once every month or they would “visit him at home again.” He had no choice but to comply. Under the police’s directive, the street committee took his picture and forced him to be fingerprinted.
