(Minghui.org) I have a second property in a rural area about two kilometers from the county where I live. It is a four-roomed property totaling a little less than 200 square meters, and has a private courtyard. There are several factories near the village. Most factory workers come from other regions, so many people come to the village to rent housing. My husband and I renovated the property and kept two rooms for group Fa study, and the other two to rent. Since there are no additional structures in the yard, the house gets plenty of sunlight and has space for growing vegetables, so tenants are all very satisfied.
Returning Partial Rent to Tenants
Our first tenants were a couple in their 50s. I told them that I could only rent out two rooms, as I needed the other two. They agreed. I also told them, “I do not rely on rent to make a living. It’s not easy for you to work away from home, so I don’t charge very much. There is no need to sign a contract or pay a deposit. I trust you. The only thing I ask is for you to maintain a clean environment.” They were very happy and immediately agreed.
Soon after, I went to see them during their off hours to clarify the truth and ask them to withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations. Coincidentally, they had invited two coworkers over for dinner. The couple warmly introduced me to their friends and praised me as a good person. I explained the truth about Falun Dafa and the importance of withdrawing from the CCP to stay safe. All of them agreed to withdraw.
A few months later, their factory relocated, and they had to leave right away. Due to time constraints, they called my relative and asked her to relay the message to me. I thought to myself: “As a Dafa disciple, I should return the remaining rent and not take advantage of them.” I talked to my relative about this, and she said it wasn’t necessary, but I insisted. So I got their number and called them. They couldn’t believe that I contacted them just to return part of the rent.
A few days later, we met at the house, and I returned the remaining rent. They were deeply moved and repeatedly thanked me. I told them, “I practice Dafa. Dafa’s Master teaches practitioners to act this way.” They warmly invited me to go to the Shaolin Temple near their home and said they would give me a tour. I thanked them and reminded them to remember, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” so they could stay safe in times of calamity. They agreed. Before leaving, they took pictures in the yard as a keepsake.
Tenants Who Understand the Truth Receive Blessings
Soon after, another family came. They were a young couple with a son attending a technical school. The husband was a newly hired bus driver, and the wife worked at a shopping mall. They wanted to rent three rooms, which worked out because the Fa study group had moved elsewhere.
I cleaned the house thoroughly inside and out, making everything spotless. Since they arrived in a hurry and lacked sufficient bedding, I gave them my own clean quilts for free. There were two vegetable plots in the yard, and I told them they could choose to use them or not. They decided to manage the smaller one.
Soon, I found an opportunity to clarify the truth to them, and they all withdrew from the CCP’s organizations. When the COVID outbreak hit, the husband continued working as a driver, and he was not infected. The entire family avoided the disaster and received divine protection. After lockdowns were lifted, the wife found a job at a foreign-funded enterprise about 20 kilometers away. Though the work was demanding, the income was substantial. The husband also worked hard, often taking overtime shifts, and earned a decent income. Their child was very good, and everything was going smoothly for them. After three years, they were able to buy a new home. I was truly happy that they understood the truth about Dafa and received blessings.
Treating Others with Kindness and Tolerance
After the second tenant moved out, I renovated the house. The back windows had become old, and rainwater was leaking in, so I decided to replace them. My relatives advised against it, saying that tenants wouldn’t appreciate it and it would be a waste of money. But I thought that migrant workers have a hard life, and I wanted them to have a good living environment and feel the kindness of Dafa practitioners.
Soon after the renovation, a neighbor asked me about renting the whole house for her brother-in-law’s family. When I learned that five people would be living there, I mentioned that the sewage pit was small and might be inconvenient. In that village, since there is no drainage system, each household manages its own waste, and overflow could lead to fines. She said they could handle it. I also told her that I would only rent out three rooms, as I wanted to keep one for myself. They agreed and moved in.
The new tenants were a couple in their 30s, two young daughters, and the husband’s sister. They were very satisfied with the house. They said it had a good environment, low rent, no contract, no deposit, and a full garden for them to use, and they had never rented such a good place or met such a kind landlord. When I clarified the truth to them, they all withdrew from the Party.
After half a year, the wife told me the sewage pit had become full and unusable. They didn’t have time or the skills to fix it and asked for my help. Although I agreed, I initially felt uneasy in my heart, “I had already warned them about this, and they said they could handle it. Why not now?” I knew this exposed my attachments to personal gain, jealousy, fear of trouble, and ego. I tried to let go of these attachments.
I hired someone to fix the sewage. He said it required digging a new pit, lining it with bricks and cement, and securing the cover so it wouldn’t obstruct pedestrians. The cost was 1,000 yuan. I agreed. After it was done, the tenants never mentioned the expense, as if nothing had happened. I felt a bit uncomfortable again, but I knew it was due to my attachments to personal gain, reputation, and self-esteem. I recalled Master’s Fa, “It is hard in that you knowingly lose your vested interests among everyday people.” (Lecture Eight, Zhuan Falun). My heart became at ease, as Master removed these negative substances for me. From then on, I had no negative feelings about it—only understanding, tolerance, and kindness.
Several years passed. Due to factory relocation and the need to care for their children, the tenants had to move. They didn’t inform me in advance, and by the time they told me, I had missed a good opportunity to rent the house to others, as there was a rush for rentals from outside workers right before that. I did not blame them, and only showed understanding and tolerance. The wife was very apologetic and explained repeatedly that for their child’s sake, they had no choice. She thanked me sincerely. I told her, “We all have predestined relationships, and that’s why we are connected in this lifetime. If I did anything poorly, please forgive me.”
She hurriedly replied, “No, no, there is nothing.” I reminded her that in times of great calamity or danger, her whole family should remember to recite the nine characters, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” and they will be safe. She said, “Auntie, we will remember!”
Final Remarks
To be able to practice Falun Dafa in this lifetime, become a disciple of Master, and assist Master in Fa-rectification, is an immense honor and privilege. I know that my cultivation still falls far short of Master’s and Dafa’s requirements. He has done so much for me and endured so much on my behalf. I cannot express my boundless gratitude in words. I will cherish this rare opportunity, remember Master’s teachings, study the Fa well, do the three things well, and follow Master to return to my true home.
