Andrew Rolwes, a federal director of outreach, saw Shen Yun in Spokane, Washington, on April 14.
“I loved it. It was just so beautiful. It was very moving,” Mr. Rolwes said.
“The combination of choreography, the music, and the stage design—the dancing expressed profound ideas without the need for words. I think it just captures an essence of things that are transcendent, things that are good, true, and beautiful.
“It’s very rarely that you get to see that expression of these deep, profound things, and I’ve enjoyed that part of it very much,” he said.
Mr. Rolwes shared that there were “moments where I was almost transfixed—when you get to see such a perfect balance of grace and beauty combined with this magnificent, physical strength and power.”
He enjoyed Shen Yun’s portrayal of a story from the Chinese classic, “Journey to the West.” “I thoroughly enjoyed the story of the Monkey and how he overcame his opponents. It’s sublime and also entertaining. And it’s a perfect balance of deep and meaningful things as well as very, just great entertainment,” he said.
Another dance story that left a deep impression told the story of Falun Dafa practitioners. “I think that speaks to everybody that gets to see it. The first time I saw it was several years ago,” Mr. Rolwes said.
He said that he was moved to see, “the intense trauma and suffering the followers of Falun Dafa experienced, expressed [with] grace and beauty and strength.”

Dancer Hana Kuchová Breburdová saw Shen Yun in Prague, Czech Republic on April 17.
“Shen Yun artists’ skills were the highest I have seen in my life. I come to see Shen Yun every year and I’m very moved each time,” she said.
“My favorite are the costumes in the show, as well as the female dancer’s various gliding steps and spins. These performers are so beautiful,” she said.
Chantal Susini (Courtesy of NTD)
Chantal Susini, a government finance executive in Marseille, saw Shen Yun with her daughter in Aix-En-Provence on April 20.
“The show was truly fantastic—something enchanting, embodying all the talent and poetry one might seek in a classical dance performance,” she said.
She highlighted the richness of the vignettes and quality of the troupe, “Immense talent... truly a high-quality performance.”
Having attended with her daughter—an avid art enthusiast—Ms. Susini also noted the intergenerational appeal of the show. “The audience was very attentive,” she said.
Beyond the visual aspect, it was the cultural dimension that particularly captured her attention, “A sense of shared history—of shared values, and of a civilization that has fascinated people throughout the centuries,” she said.
She also emphasized the emotional power of the performance, “You feel transported... when you witness the beauty of the movements, the precision, and the sheer effort behind it all.”
“The dancers... it’s as if the female dancers had wheels beneath their feet—it is something that truly sweeps you away.
“You can feel that sense of the divine throughout the entire performance... It evokes a great deal of emotion and brings such joy,” she said.
She also described a sense of spiritual elevation, “There is something there… perhaps something a little divine—something that truly transported us… and made us forget everything else.”
“It can offer depth... a return to values... It is universal.
“It prompts us to reflect on our inner selves—on the very best within us,” she said.
Upon leaving the venue, she described her feelings, “Calm, uplifted... It brings joy, serenity, and a sense of unity.”
Cybersecurity specialist Eric Buvron saw Shen Yun in New York City on April 12.
“It’s a 10 out of 10, spectacular! Everything – the dancing, the choreography, the costumes, the music – it’s a show that everyone should see. Especially the connection with the Creator,” Mr. Buvron said.
“In your show, you are saying that salvation is one of the theses,” he said. “In the end, you have to be with God to be saved. He saves. It’s very important, especially now, where we see events happening that show us that the time is very nearing. So this show is extremely important for that reason.”
“It tells us that the culture, especially the traditions, are very important. Because if you lose your culture, if you lose your traditions, then you lose your way.
“So it’s very, very important to understand your history, your culture, and your connection to the Creator. Very important, especially now at the very end.
“Keep up the great work! It’s fantastic and I hope to see it again,” he said.
Chad R. Perkins and wife (Courtesy of The Epoch Times)
State Representative Chad Perkins and his wife saw Shen Yun in Portland, Maine, on April 18. They drove two and a half hours from Dover-Foxcroft to see the performance.
“It was well worth the trip. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long,” Mr. Perkins said.
“All the work that’s behind it, the artistry... the talent, it’s just amazing.
“We were so glad we came... I bought my tickets back in January, and I’ve been waiting for it ever since,” he said.
Mr. Perkins said he was impressed most with the “costume and the movements” of the “Ladies’ Manchurian Ethnic Dance,” which featured the Qing dynasty’s elaborate headdresses and high heels, known as “flower-pot” shoes.
“I’m a very strong believer in freedom,” Mr. Perkins said. “The Chinese people are amazing people, but they can do so much more if they could get rid of communism; it would be so much better.
“People, especially Americans, don’t see what goes on in the rest of the world. And for [Shen Yun] to highlight the fact that there was a culture before communism and it was suppressed, and it was erased... I think it’s amazing.
“It’s important that things like this exist [so] that people can be educated,” he said. “Seeing this, it brings hope, it really does.”
“[The Chinese Communist Party] understands that if this message gets out and people see just how dangerous the message of communism is, it would ruin their grip on power,” Mr. Perkins said. “So that’s why they try to suppress this, and that’s why I think it’s vitally important that this message keeps going out.”
“Younger people aren’t educated about the dangers of communism and how it’s designed to wipe out faith, it’s designed to wipe out spirituality, it’s designed to wipe out culture [and] tradition,” he added.
Mr. Perkins thanked Shen Yun’s artistic director for “giving us this amazing performance.”
“Thank you for all the work that goes into it. Thank you for your dedication,” he added.
And to the Shen Yun company, he thanked them for their courage to stand against communism and revive traditions.
“I know they face some persecution just performing in this show. I know that there are forces that reach out and try to affect them, and the amount of courage and dedication is amazing,” he said. “They should be very proud of that.”
“We’ll come again,” he added. “It was awesome. It’s amazing.”
