(Minghui.org) In Flushing, the most densely populated Chinese enclave in Queens, New York, bustling crowds and many dialects paint a vivid picture of immigrant life. Amid this urban landscape, a unique group has been setting up information booths for many years. They are immigrants from China who came to the United States after 1999 to escape persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Falun Dafa practitioners from China have set up information booths on Main Street in Flushing since 1999. These booths not only expose human rights violations within China, but have also become a unique window to convey factual information from China.
Many years have passed, and the practitioners have developed a rapport with local residents. A new practitioner recalled that when she brought the equipment to set up a booth next to the post office, the proprietor of a nearby booth who was selling bread, greeted her with a welcoming “Falun Gong is here!” and helped her set up the display panels.
Some booth owners who run construction businesses have used their free time to show practitioners how to make their booths more sturdy to cope with bad weather. This kind of neighborly support transcends differences in faith, reflecting the community’s recognition of and respect for the practitioners’ enduring persistence.
Apart from information, the practitioners’ booths also provide a unique service: They help Chinese people quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
Practitioners’ booth in Flushing
According to one of the volunteers, with the dissemination of editorials such as Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party, more and more people have been revisiting China’s history. Falun Dafa practitioners inside of China are the main force in spreading information about quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations and helping people process their withdrawals.
It is not uncommon to see elderly Chinese or young tourists from China standing in front of the booths in Flushing, leaning in to listen to the truth-clarification recordings. Through face-to-face conversations, many people chose to let go of their fear and make an official statement to quit the CCP. A Chinese man who has lived in Flushing for many years said sincerely, “What I admire most about all of you is your unwavering persistence, be it rain or shine. It is truly remarkable.”
On April 25, 2026, a parade and rally to commemorate the April 25 peaceful appeal that took place in Beijing 27 years ago was held in Flushing. Many figures from Chinese pro-democracy groups and ordinary citizens took part in the parade.
Jin Xiuhong, chair of the Federation for a Democratic China, and other members of the Federation came from out of state to attend. They unfurled a banner that supported the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Yang Maosen, founder of the New China People’s Party, said that this truth-clarification campaign that has spanned 27 years has allowed people to see hope amid the struggle between good and evil.
The commemoration event extended into the evening in New York’s Times Square. Wang Juntao, chairman of the National Committee of the Democratic Party of China, expressed his respect for practitioners during the event. He said that Falun Dafa practitioners are not merely upholding their individual rights to freedom of belief, but are also demonstrating a profound concern for human destiny and dignity.
