My Mother-in-Law Says Falun Dafa Is Wonderful

June 30, 2026 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) My mother-in-law is 91 years old. After she began practicing Falun Dafa in March 1995 her illnesses disappeared. She hasn’t needed any medication, or injections since then.

She grew up in poverty. After her father died, her mother had to work for others. Her younger brother was given away to another family, and she was sent to a temple. Her mother passed away soon after, so she grew up in the temple.

She married my father-in-law in 1958 and worked until she retired. Because her health was so poor she only had one child―my husband.

She had a host of ailments, including heart disease, Ménière’s disease (disorder of the inner ear), gallbladder inflammation, bone tuberculosis, and rheumatoid arthritis which caused her knee joints to become deformed and swollen. Because of stomach problems, she could not eat anything raw or cold, and had to steam fruit before she ate it. An egg would sit in her stomach for days, taking a whole month to digest. In addition, she caught colds every month.

She said, “Every part of me is sick except my hair.” She wept and begged the doctors to cure her illnesses.

To improve her health and ease her suffering, my mother-in-law practiced qigong. She tried nine different types of qigong over the years, and spent a considerable amount of money, but her health problems persisted.

Falun Dafa was later introduced to our area. My mother-in-law gave it a try since it was free of charge. She was 60 years old then. She couldn’t sit cross-legged in the full-lotus position, but was able to sit in single lotus position when she started learning the practice.

I asked her to lend me the book, Falun Gong, because I had postpartum complications after the birth of my daughter, and medication was no help. Falun Gong was the only Dafa book available at the time, and I thought it was wonderful, so I went to the practice site in September 1995.

My mother-in-law’s health improved dramatically after she began practicing. Her illnesses disappeared, and she could eat anything. She’s practiced Falun Dafa for 31 years, and hasn’t had any health issues, so she uses the money on her health insurance card to buy other things.

When the persecution began in July 1999, my mother-in-law didn’t give up the practice, and told people how wonderful Falun Dafa is. Her coworkers knew about her previous health issues, and when they asked how she was doing, she would say, “I’m healthy because of Falun Dafa.” She said good things about Dafa wherever she went.

I was illegally arrested many times, and my mother-in-law went to police stations, public security bureaus, procuratorates, and courts to plead for me. She paid for my daughter’s college tuition, used her meager salary to support herself and my husband, and paid 10,000 yuan for my legal fees.

My mother-in-law’s coworkers, relatives, and friends learned that she was healthy because of Falun Dafa. She helped her brother’s son and wife, daughter and husband, and grandchildren all withdraw from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its affiliated organizations.

Two years ago the CCP launched a new round of propaganda to demonize Falun Dafa. The head of security at her workplace brought local police officers to our house, and demanded my mother-in-law sign a guarantee statement saying she would quit the practice.

My mother-in-law refused to sign, and told the head of security, “You knew about my health issues before I learned the practice. I’ve practiced for almost 30 years and I’ve been healthy, and I haven’t taken any medication all this time. What am I going to do if I get sick after signing this statement?”

“You have medical insurance,” said the head of security.

She replied, “Is the medical insurance coverage enough? Being sick is such an ordeal!”

My mother-in-law told them about her positive changes after she began practicing Falun Dafa. They finally gave up trying to make her sign the statement, and didn’t bother to take a photo of her. They told her to practice at home, and left.

The elderly population in China has steadily increased, and many are in poor health and take medication. Some are either bedridden, or hospitalized. Sick parents require more care, attention, and financial help from their families, which can take a toll on their children.

By staying healthy, my mother-in-law has saved the country a significant amount of money, and benefited our family in many ways. She cooks her own meals and does her own laundry, and she sometimes she cooks for my family.
