(Minghui.org) Two women in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, were indicted in early June 2026 because they practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The persecution of Ms. Qiu Deying, 66, and Ms. Xu Julian, 69, began when they were arrested on October 9, 2024, for using a device to send text messages which had information about Falun Gong. They were held at a brainwashing center for nine days and released on October 18.
On June 4, 2026, the women were notified by the Xihu District Procuratorate that they were indicted. The prosecutor recommended Ms. Qiu be sentenced to 20 months and Ms. Xu to 23 months, and that both women be fined.
Ms. Qiu was summoned to the Xihu District Court on June 12. She went with her daughter.
The judge asked Ms. Qiu why she had to practice Falun Gong. She said she was bedridden for three years due to a severe illness; she tried many medical treatments, but nothing helped. She was fine after she started practicing Falun Gong. Now in her 60s, she is very energetic and looks young.
Ms. Qiu’s daughter added that her mother, an illiterate person who never attended school, was able to read Falun Gong books after taking up the practice.
The judge also asked questions about Ms. Qiu’s children’s jobs and how many real estate properties they owned. It’s unclear if they responded. Ms. Qiu suspected that the judge was hinting at implicating her children in an attempt to make her plead guilty in court.
