(Minghui.org) Four residents in Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, were recently sentenced to prison for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Qian Mingfen was sentenced to five years and fined 40,000 yuan. His wife, Ms. Chen Yanhua, was given four years with a 30,000-yuan fine. Mr. Qian Endi received two years and three months, with a 15,000-yuan fine. Ms. Wu Chang’e was sentenced to 15 months, with 22 months of probation and an 8,000-yuan fine.
All four practitioners were summoned by the Jindong District Police Department and arrested upon arrvial. Ms. Wu was arrested on May 28, 2025, and released on bail on the same day. Mr. Qian Endi and Ms. Chen were arrested on July 22, 2025. Mr. Qian was soon released but was re-arrested on August 21 and put in the Jinhua City Detention Center. Ms. Chen was released on bail on August 7. Her husband, Mr. Qian Mingfen, was arrested on July 29, and released on bail on August 6.
Prosecutor Wu Xuehong of the Wucheng District Procuratorate indicted the practitioners at an unknown time, charging them with “undermining law enforcement with a cult organization,” the standard pretext used to criminalize Falun Gong practitioners in China. Wu also accused Mr. Qian Mingfen of printing Falun Gong informational materials for the other three to distribute.
The Wucheng District Court accepted the case on December 17, 2025, and convicted the practitioners following a hearing on April 10, 2026. Presiding judge Huang Junwei, assistant judges Zheng Gang and Luo Xiaoqing, and acting clerk Chu Haiyan, signed the verdict.
On April 19, 2026, Mr. Qian Mingfen and Ms. Chen appealed to the Jinhua City Intermediate Court, which ruled against the couple on June 2.
Ms. Chen is currently serving time at the Zhejiang Province Women’s Prison in the capital of Hangzhou. Her pension has been suspended per an order from the Jindong District Police Department.
Mr. Qian Mingfen and Mr. Qian Endi are likely serving time at the Zhejiang Province Fourth Prison.
Mr. Qian Mingfen was previously arrested on May 14, 2007, while working in the farm field. He was sentenced to four years.
Mr. Qian was arrested again on August 23, 2011, and taken to the Shi-ting Farm Brainwashing Center.
His next arrest was on May 16, 2012, by officers from the Jindong District Domestic Security Office and Chisong Police Station. His computer and Falun Gong books were confiscated. He was sentenced to four and a half years by the Wucheng District Court.
Mr. Qian Endi was previously arrested in October 2014. He was first held at the Shuanglong Brainwashing Center, and then transferred to the Jinhua City Detention Center. He was sentenced to four years, and transferred to the Zhejiang Province Fourth Prison on January 6, 2016.
Mr. Qian’s 86-year-old mother was devastated by his prison sentence. She stopped eating and could not sleep. She kept calling his name. She soon suffered a stroke and passed away. Her family demanded the prison to allow Mr. Qian to attend her funeral, but their request was denied.
