(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old woman in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, was notified on June 23, 2026, that she had been sentenced to three years and two months with a 7,000-yuan fine for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Xiong Cuihuan’s wrongful conviction stemmed from an incident on December 7, 2024, when she gave a few high-schoolers bookmarks with the words “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good” printed on them. One student gave the bookmarks to his homeroom teacher, who in turn reported Ms. Xiong to police.
Officers from the Maqiu Town Domestic Security Office and a local police station broke into Ms. Xiong’s home on the morning of January 6, 2025. They confiscated her Falun Gong materials and other items before taking her to the police station. They drove her to a local detention center in the afternoon. She exhibited illness symptoms and was released on a one-year bail. The police ordered Ms. Xiong to report to them whenever summoned. They also harassed her at home and took pictures of her without her permission.
The police submitted Ms. Xiong’s case to the Xihu District Procuratorate on November 5, 2025. It is unclear whether Ms. Xiong was taken back into custody in January 2026 when her one-year bail period ended.
Ms. Xiong stood trial at the Xihu District Court on June 5, 2026. Presiding judge Fu Xiaohua criticized her defense statement as being “repetitive” and adjourned the session before she could finish talking.
Ms. Xiong was notified of her guilty verdict on June 23, 2026. Presiding judge Fu, assistant judges Liu Yufang and Zhang Wangjuan, as well as clerk Liu Jiefu, signed the verdict.
