85-Year-Old Sichuan Woman Serving Third Prison Term, Only One of Her Children Allowed To Visit Her

July 27, 2026 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) An 85-year-old woman in Linshui County, Sichuan Province, was admitted to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on May 14, 2026, to serve a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong.

The prison guards in the Sixth Division only allowed Ms. Tang Sulan’s second son to visit her because he shared the same household registration with her. Her other children were denied visits, despite their repeated appeals to various government agencies.

Ms. Tang was arrested on September 11, 2025, and sentenced after two court hearings on November 13, 2025, and January 28, 2026. She was transferred from the Guang’an City Detention Center to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison on May 14, 2026.

This is the third time Ms. Tang has been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong. She was arrested in July 2000 for distributing Falun Gong flyers, and was later sentenced to four years by the Linshui County Court. While serving time at the Yangmahe Prison, she was subjected to physical and mental torture. After her sentence ended, the police held her at a brainwashing center for a month.

Ms. Tang was arrested again on July 25, 2014, while hosting a birthday party at her home. She was sentenced to two and a half years on October 27, 2016.

Ms. Tang’s family was also targeted for not renouncing Falun Gong. Her husband, their oldest son, and son-in-law died as a result of the persecution. Her grandson, who did not practice Falun Gong, grew up in fear, witnessing the repeated arrests, harassment, and detention of his parents and other family members. Under severe and constant mental distress, he died when he was only 21.
