(Minghui.org) An 88-year-old woman in Jilin City, Jilin Province, was admitted to prison in late July 2026 to serve a four-year term she was given in 2023 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Feng Fengyun’s ordeal stemmed from her arrest on January 22, 2022. She was held in custody for two days and then released on bail, after she was deemed unfir for detention due to poor health.
The police submitted Ms. Feng’s case to the Changyi District Procuratorate at an unknown time. She was tried by the Changyi District Court in late June 2023, and sentenced to four years on August 31 that year.
Although Ms. Feng was allowed to postpone serving time, police broke into her home at noon on July 30, 2026, and called an ambulance to transport her to the hospital for a physical exam.
At the hospital, Ms. Feng was not given any exams and only had a blood sample taken. Captains Jiang and Yu, along with officer Liu Mingyang, of the Fengman District Domestic Security Office, then took her to the Jilin City Detention Center. The next morning, the detention center called her family and informed them that Ms. Feng had been transferred to Xinkang Prison, also known as the Jilin Province Prison Administration Bureau Central Hospital.
The prison hospital called Ms. Feng’s family on August 2, ordering them to come the next day. When they went the following afternoon, the prison doctor told them that Ms. Feng had several severe conditions, including cerebral infarction, pulmonary infection, hepatic cyst, lumbar vertebral hyperplasia, and lower-extremity venous thrombosis.
The family questioned why the prison would keep her in custody if she was in serious condition. The doctor said that they were only providing treatment and that the family had to contact prison management to apply for medical parole for Ms. Feng. He also refused to give the family a copy of a report of the physical exam.
The family called the prison director on August 7 and demanded they be allowed to visit her, but he refused. When they requested her release on medical parole, the director said he would check with his superiors and then hung up.
