(Minghui.org) Minghui.org learned recently that seven women in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, were arrested on April 16, 2026, while studying Falun Gong teachings together at a private residence. They were released after a brief period of detention.
Arrests
Ms. Hou Wanli invited six guests to her house on April 16, 2026, to help her with her kitchen renovation. Since they all practice Falun Gong, they studied the Falun Gong teaching together afterwards.
At a bit past 3 p.m., guest Ms. Wang Linxian decided to leave first. As soon as she opened the door, eight or nine plainclothes officers barged in and pushed her back inside.
One of the officers knocked Ms. Hou down to the ground, causing injury to her hip. She was still in pain one week later. She demanded to know the police officers’ names, but they only replied they were from the Kunming City Police Department.
When Ms. Hou condemned the police for invading her privacy, they alleged that they'd gotten a tip that a lot of people were coming and going from her home.
The police ransacked Ms. Hou’s home and confiscated four tablets, a laptop, a memory card, a card reader, two MP3 players, a media player, and four copies of Zhuan Falun (the main book of Falun Gong). She asked to keep the media player so she could play the Falun Gong exercise music. The police refused to let her keep the media player.
Two Interrogated at Macun Police Station
Ms. Wang and another guest, Ms. Xiong Shiyu, were taken to the Macun Police Station for interrogation. They were forced to sign and fingerprint the interrogation records. Ms. Wang’s daughter was summoned to the police station after 1 a.m. to pick her up. Ms. Xiong was taken home by an officer.
Both women’s homes were ransacked three days later. The police confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun from Ms. Xiong’s home and seized all of Ms. Wang’s Falun Gong books.
Two Interrogated at Liangyuan Police Station
Guests Ms. Hou Wanjing (sister of Ms. Hou Wanli) and Ms. Wang Xiuyun were taken to the Liangyuan Police Station. After interrogation, they were put in a room with their hands cuffed. Ms. Hou, who became disabled after a car accident, was unable to sleep well that night. She was in pain for a long time after she was released.
Ms. Wang was not wearing warm clothing in the cool spring weather and was shivering. She saw a thick plastic bag next to her and begged the police to allow her to use it to keep warm. They refused her request.
Ms. Wang and Ms. Hou were not released until the following afternoon, after they were forced to sign and fingerprint the interrogation records.
Three Interrogated at Wuhua District Police Department
Ms. Hou Wanli and her two other guests, including Ms. Zhang Qingxiu and Ms. Hu Min, were taken to the Wuhua District Department. They were forced to change into detention center uniforms and disposable slippers.
During the interrogation, Ms. Hou had to use the restroom but was not allowed to because she refused to say, “Officer, I need to use the restroom.” She became unwell after holding her urine for a long time. Only then did a policewoman escort her to the restroom.
Ms. Hou and her guests refused to sign the interrogation records, but the police managed to collect their biometrics, including their fingerprints, toe-prints, blood samples, and voice samples.
The police took the three women back to Ms. Hou’s home after 4 a.m. on April 17, 2026. They left Ms. Zhang there and said they’d pick her up the next day.
Ms. Hou’s son urged the police not to take his mother away again as her blood pressure tended to spike when she didn’t get sufficient sleep. The police still took Ms. Hou and Ms. Hu to the Yueyatang Police Station. The two women were held in a room and guarded by two officers.
The police brought in a lot of paperwork after dawn broke and ordered Ms. Hou and Ms. Hu to sign. They refused to comply. Ms. Hu was released after 6 p.m. on April 17, 2026. Ms. Hou was given 15 days of administrative detention and taken to the Xinhua Hospital for a physical exam. She was found to have high blood pressure and high blood sugar. The doctor recommended inpatient care, but the police sent her home instead.
The police returned to Ms. Hou’s home on April 17, 2026, to take Ms. Zhang to a police station (it is unclear which one). They collected her fingerprints, palm prints, footprints, blood sample, and voice sample. She refused to sign the bail release form but was still forced to pay a 1,000-yuan bail bond. The police didn’t issue a receipt as required by law and simply said she could return one year later to get the money back.
Shortly after Ms. Zhang returned home, her local community and police station called her many times ordering her to report to them. She refused to comply. They showed up at her home the next day (April 18) and ordered her to sign her bail release form. She refused and also didn’t allow her son to sign on her behalf when the police ordered him to do so.
When the police threatened to report her case to the higher-ups, she remained adamant that she would not sign the bail release form. They then left.
According to insiders, over one hundred other Falun Gong practitioners in Kunming City were harassed or arrested between April 15 and 17, 2026.
