(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old man in Benxi City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to four years in July 2026 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Fan Wei took up Falun Gong in December 2018 and recovered from stroke complications. His good health enabled him to care for his incapacitated wife, who also struggles with the aftereffects of a stroke.
Having had a positive experience with Falun Gong, Mr. Fan worked hard to inform the public that Falun Gong was nothing like what was being depicted in the communist regime’s hate propaganda. He was arrested on August 20, 2025, after a retired staffer from the local Political and Legal Affairs Committee reported him for putting up self-adhesive stickers which had information about Falun Gong. The arresting officers from the Dongming Police Station raided his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books and informational materials.
Mr. Fan’s family went to the police station many times to seek his release, but to no avail. His wife was traumatized, and her health deteriorated. Their child, who had no job, struggled to support the family and pay for the medical expenses.
Mr. Fan was indicted by the Mingshan District Procuratorate at an unknown time. He appeared in the Mingshan District Court on May 29, 2026, and was convicted in late July. He appealed to the Benxi City Intermediate Court.
Prior to his latest persecution episode, Mr. Fan was arrested in July 2021. He was sentenced to three years and fined 5,000 yuan on November 29, 2021. He finished serving his sentence on July 19, 2024. He was arrested again and will be tried.
