(Minghui.org) Ms. Wu Zhiping, 70, from Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province faces prosecution again for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Wu was arrested on October 9, 2024, while talking to people about Falun Gong near the Jiangxi Province Maternal and Children’s Health Center. The arresting officers from the Nanchang City Domestic Security Division took her to the Qingyupu District Brainwashing Center. Not long after, they moved her to the Nanchang City Detention Center, where she remains.
Ms. Wu, a retired worker of the Nanchang Steel Factory, took up Falun Gong in April 1997. After the persecution began two years later, she was repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith. Prior to her latest persecution episode, she was sentenced three times for her faith, and served a 3-year term from October 2008 to October 2011, a 3.5-year term from June 2015 to December 2018, and a 1.5-year term from September 2021 to March 2023.
In addition to her three prison sentences, Ms. Wu was also detained at various facilities multiple times. She was held in a psychiatric hospital for an unknown amount of time in 2021, even though she had no mental illness.
Ms. Wu’s daughter was also implicated for her faith. The younger woman received numerous phone calls from the police and street committee staffers in May 2020, ordering her to persuade her mother to renounce Falun Gong. She could no longer handle the pressure and became ill. After having a surgery, she begged Ms. Wu, “Mom, I can’t stand it anymore. Can we just disown each other?” Ms. Wu understood the pressure her daughter was put through and agreed. For details of her past persecution, see the related reports.
