(Minghui.org) Minghui.org confirmed in early March 2025 that a Zhengzhou City, Henan Province resident has been sentenced to three years and three months for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Guiying, a native of Kaifeng City of the same province, who lives in Zhengzhou, was arrested on November 13, 2023, by officers from the Zhengzhou City Police Station. Her family has been kept in the dark about her case status and they only heard about her prison sentence recently.
This is the second time that Ms. Wang has been sentenced for practicing Falun Gong. She was previously arrested on April 29, 2016, after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. She was held at the Zhengzhou City Third Detention Center. During her hearing by the Jinshui District Court on August 12, 2016, she stated that she didn’t violate any law or harm anyone by practicing Falun Gong. She also testified that the police raided her home when no one was around and they failed to provide a list of confiscated items as required by law. Therefore, she refused to acknowledge the prosecution evidence submitted by the police.
The judge sentenced Ms. Wang to 1.5 years on April 3, 2017. She appealed with the Zhengzhou City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold the original verdict.
When Ms. Wang’s daughter Ms. Liu Xin and sister Ms. Wang Zanmei (also a Falun Gong practitioner) went to visit her at the Xinxiang Women’s Prison on July 7, 2017, a guard surnamed Yuan said to Ms. Wang Zanmei, “You still have the nerve to come?” Ms. Wang Zanmei, who was jailed from May 2010 to December 2012 for practicing Falun Gong, replied, “Why should I be hesitant to come? My sister and I are both trying to be good people [according to the teachings of Falun Gong], but we were detained because of that. Shouldn’t I come to visit my sister?”
Yuan told Ms. Wang not to come anymore. She replied, “It’s my freedom and right whether to come or not.” The guard then stopped the visitation.
Ms. Wang Zanmei had polio when she was little. She also had a severe heart condition and insufficient blood flow to the brain. In 1998, she began to practice Falun Gong and soon regained her health. For upholding her faith in the face of the persecution, she was arrested at least eleven times, her home was ransacked seven times, she was put on criminal detention seven times and administrative detention twice, and was given two prison terms totaling 6.5 years.
