A 74-year-old woman in Qingyang City, Gansu Province died on May 19, 2025, after suffering years of persecution for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Guo Caiping took up Falun Gong in 2005 and soon recovered from rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses. Despite the ongoing persecution of the practice, she felt compelled to tell people not to fall victim to the communist regime’s slanderous propaganda against Falun Gong. While distributing Falun Gong informational materials on December 28, 2015, Ms. Guo was arrested and her home was raided.

Ms. Guo was sentenced to three years at an unknown time. After her appeal was denied, she was admitted to the Gansu Province Women’s Prison in November 2016. The prison guards forced Ms. Guo to take a small white pill every day a few days after her prison admission. She felt drowsy, sleepy, and had no appetite. When she saw someone hitting another person or if someone hit her, she would shake uncontrollably and have to lean on the wall as she walked. She stammered when talking and could not speak clearly. She wondered why her behavior was so affected and suspected that the drug was altering her cognition. She stopped taking the pills and discarded them without being seen by the guards. The symptoms soon went away.

The guards also instigated the inmates to beat Ms. Guo. (Refer to the related report for details of her 2016 arrest and abuse in prison.)

After Ms. Guo was released, her family tried to stop her from practicing Falun Gong for fear of her being arrested again. She persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises. One morning her cell phone alarm went off and her family discovered Falun Gong information on the phone. Misled by the propaganda against Falun Gong, they turned the phone in to the police. Several officers soon arrived and took Ms. Guo to the local police station for interrogation. She was then released.

The police kept harassing Ms. Guo at home, especially around sensitive dates. On August 20, 2024, they arrested another local Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Li Ruihua, and raided Ms. Guo’s home after 10:00 the following night to see if Ms. Li had any Falun Gong materials at her home for safekeeping. The police left after finding nothing.

The relentless harassment took a toll on Ms. Guo’s health. Her condition worsened in 2024 and she was diagnosed with lung cancer, which had metastasized to the liver and bone. She had pain all over her body and was emaciated. After surgery in early 2025, she became incapacitated and died on May 19, 2025.
