(Minghui.org) Master told us:
“Compassion is expressed in this world through love and kindness, and these are qualities that those who practice Dafa should always radiate from within.” (“A Wake-Up Call”)
I think this is the requirement that Master has put forward to practitioners after discovering the problems in our cultivation.
The Proper State of a Dafa Cultivator
“Love and kindness” is the essential state of life that we should strive to embody. This mindset should be cultivated from the very beginning of our cultivation, as the principles of the Fa we cultivate are Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. As Dafa disciples living in ordinary society, it is important that we express kindness and love through our words and actions each day. By doing so, we can demonstrate the beauty of Dafa and fulfill our responsibility to help save people.
The Consequences of Being Instilled With CCP Culture
We have been living under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) since childhood, indoctrinated with its culture and various forms of hatred.
Our thoughts, perspectives, mannerisms, tone of voice, and facial expressions were all influenced by the culture of the CCP. After focusing on personal growth, I adhered to the principles of the Fa and eliminated much of the Party culture from my heart. However, letting go of resentment remains a challenge, and feelings of hatred can resurface at any time.
I feel a deep resentment toward the public security, procuratorial, and judicial personnel involved in the arrest, prosecution, and wrongful sentencing of Falun Dafa practitioners. These individuals are already aware of the fundamental truths about Falun Dafa through various means. They know that the persecution of Falun Dafa lacks a legal basis, and are fully aware that practitioners are good people. Yet they continue to abuse their power, which is truly despicable! I see no hope for them! Instead of feeling pity or concern for the terrible consequences that they bring upon themselves, I thought they only deserved what they received.
Toward those who framed practitioners who were clarifying the truth, spoke ill of them, or refused to listen to the truth, I felt resentment. Instead of showing compassion and encouraging them to do good or at least wishing them well, I looked down on them and believed they were difficult to save. Negative thoughts overwhelmed me.
We often experience dissatisfaction and resentment toward family members in our daily lives. With so much resentment, how can I demonstrate compassion and kindness?
The Root of Hatred and Resentment
The book “The Ultimate Goal of Communism,” reveals that the essence of communism embodies an evil spirit composed of hatred and corrupt elements found in the lower universe. Hatred serves as one of the lifelines of the communist evil spirit. Regardless of the degree of hatred present in the hearts of cultivators, it is interconnected with the hatred that constitutes this communist evil spirit.
In any environment or under any circumstances, harboring feelings of hatred, resentment, dissatisfaction, complaint, and perceptions of unfairness, whether toward individuals or situations—this mirrors the hatred associated with the concept of a communist evil spirit. Hatred serves as an obstacle that hinders cultivators from progressing and prevents Dafa disciples from fulfilling their historical mission. Therefore, it is essential for cultivators to eliminate all forms of hatred.
Cultivating Compassion in Every Aspect of Life
We cultivate kindness by cultivating our minds first, starting from within and extending outward, with every word and deed. Sincerity, kindness, and tolerance are essential qualities for practitioners of Dafa.
My approach begins with expanding the capacity of my heart. I choose to remain unmoved by injustice, misunderstandings, and what I perceive as the discourtesy or unpleasant words of others. I take these matters lightly, understanding that as a practitioner, there are no coincidences—everything that happens helps me to cultivate.
What is there to hate? Kindness resides in the heart, and even things that typically might cause resentment do not disturb me. However, this alone is insufficient. I must also delve deeper to identify which aspects of attachments these things are revealing and focus on improving my character (xinxing). This is my main goal.
The kindness of a cultivator can be expressed in many ways. Regardless of appearance or age, it is important to have a kind facial expression, as this is the first impression people form when they meet someone. In the past, I often maintained a stern expression, which made others perceive me as aloof and unapproachable. Some people said I had an air of authority without needing to show anger, and I found that flattering.
Over the years, I have changed a great deal, but I sometimes still appear overly serious without realizing it. To address this, I frequently repeat in my mind what Master requires in the fifth set of exercises: “Compassion should arise in the heart, and the facial expression should be peaceful.” (The Great Way of Spiritual Perfection). Afterwards, I feel that I look much friendlier than before.
Kindness is woven into the small, unremarkable aspects of daily life. When a driver yields the right of way to me, I raise my hand to express my gratitude. When entering a public space, I hold the door open for those behind me. When shopping at the supermarket, if I am standing in front of the shopping bags, I will take one and hand it to someone further away who needs it.
In the apartment building where I live, I have been sweeping the stairs for years. During winter, I also clear the snow in front of the building. These small acts are nothing special, nor are they done with any specific purpose in mind—they happen naturally. Kindness begets kindness; such small gestures are often met with a smile or words of gratitude.
Compassion Help Us Better Fulfill Our Mission
Last summer, I visited a shopping mall to clarify the truth to a business owner. She shared a story with me about a woman who practiced Falun Gong and lived in the same apartment building as I did. She was the one who cleaned the stairs voluntarily. One day, while sweeping the stairs, she found a gold necklace. Most people might have kept it for themselves, but she went door to door asking if anyone had lost something. After finding the owner, she returned it.
She told the business owner that Falun Gong practitioners are all good people. They all believed her when she said to quit the CCP, and they followed her advice. This unknown practitioner validated Dafa with her actions and kindness and played a positive role in saving people.
Cultivating compassion should be woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Master has been imparting the Fa for over thirty years, revealing the cosmic secrets to save the universe and all sentient beings. Everything Master teaches is the truth. Each genuine disciple has absorbed these truths to cultivate themselves and assist Master in rectifying the Fa and saving sent beings.
Sometimes I don’t use my knowledge properly. I believe I have a deeper understanding of the secrets of heaven than most people do. Sometimes, I unconsciously display a sense of superiority and lack of humility. I forget that sentient beings are also high-level beings who are lost in the world, waiting to be saved and return to their heavenly home.
When speaking to my family, I sometimes unintentionally adopt a lecturing tone, which makes them feel uncomfortable. A few days ago, a family member shared something with me and expressed his feelings. I felt he was wrong, so I tried to “guide” him, thinking I was using reason to explain my perspective. However, he didn’t appreciate it and said, “Whenever I talk to you, you always use the same old ways. I can’t communicate with you.” I immediately realized it was my fault. I had imposed my own views on him, lecturing him from a position of superiority. Of course, he didn’t want to hear it. His rebuttal was actually helping me let go of that mindset. As a practitioner, if I lack kindness and compassion, I won’t get very far with whatever I do.
Articles in which cultivators share their understandings typically reflect an individual's perception at a point in time based on their cultivation state, and they are offered in the spirit of enabling mutual elevation.
