(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, was recently sentenced to 18 months for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Guo Zhimin overheard a young couple who were having a heated argument near a bus stop on October 24, 2025, and one of them talked about suicide. Ms. Guo tried to comfort them and told them about Falun Gong’s teachings. They called the police.
Officers from the Chengyang Police Station soon arrived. They arrested Ms. Guo and took her to the police station. In the afternoon, five officers searched her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, two magazines, and several pendants. No officer produced a search warrant.
A few days later, Ms. Guo’s husband learned from the police that she was being held at the Pudong Detention Center in Jimo District. He never received an official notice of her arrest or detention.
The Chengyang Police Station issued a formal arrest warrant for Ms. Guo on November 18, 2025, and submitted her case to the Chengyang District Procuratorate. The latter returned the case in mid-December 2025 and then indicted Ms. Guo after the police re-submitted the case.
Ms. Guo was tried by the Chengyang District Court on March 19, 2026, and was sentenced to 18 months on an unknown date.
Ms. Guo’s persecution has taken a toll on her husband, who has fallen ill as a result.
Prior Prison Sentence
Ms. Guo took up Falun Gong in 2010 and her chronic fatigue and leg pain soon disappeared. She was arrested by Fuxi Town Police Station officers on November 11, 2021 when she distributed informational materials about Falun Gong. The police confiscated her Falun Gong materials and didn’t allow her to hire a lawyer or allow her family to visit her.
Ms. Guo was tried by the Chengyang District Court in a virtual hearing on July 20, 2022, and she was sentenced to 14 months. She was released on January 29, 2023.
