(Minghui.org) I wanted to read Disintegrating the Culture of the Chinese Communist Party and How the Specter of Communism Is Ruling Our World, but I kept putting it off because I wasn’t sure I could finish them. In mid-January, I asked my husband, who’d recently been laid off, “Would you read two books with me? We’ll take turns reading out loud. You read one page, then I’ll read the next so I can finally read them.” He agreed.

My husband took my request seriously. He scheduled our reading sessions, and this kept me on track with my cultivation. For example, if he happened to wake up in the morning before my 3:10 a.m. alarm went off, he’d say, “It’s three o’clock. Are you getting up?” Groggily, I would answer, “Yes, I’m getting up. Thank you.” He’d say, “Get up. We have to read the books during the day.”

We read from January 18 to 31. He usually got up as soon as the music ended to send righteous thoughts at 6:00 a.m. He went out to buy groceries and then came back to cook. After tidying up, we started reading at around 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. We took a break at noon and continued reading in the afternoon. He called the midday break “halftime,” and he prepared dinner. We ate two meals a day, and he cooked both. After dinner, he reminded me, “Hurry up and go for a stroll,” meaning go out to clarify the facts about Dafa to people. When I apologized for not taking care of the household chores, he said, “No problem. You just focus on your cultivation, and I’ll benefit from it.”

We read for two or three hours in the morning and another two or three hours in the afternoon. If we encountered a character we didn’t know, we looked it up in the dictionary. If we didn’t understand something, we stopped and talked about it. I was more familiar with Chinese characters than he was, so I would tell him how to pronounce the words. In turn, he helped me spot minor writing errors. I said, “It’s incredibly difficult for the authors. They have to make a living, create content, resist persecution, and carry out numerous projects to save people. Writing a thick book is very difficult. I’ll compile these minor issues and send them to the Minghui website.”

While we read, my husband often exclaimed, “Falun Dafa practitioners are amazing! It’s so well-written. I’ve never read such excellent essays before.”

I agreed and said, “I’ve never read essays that were this good or this long.”

While we read, Dissolving Party Culture, my husband would sometimes get worked up and tell me, “Look, that’s Party culture right there; on such-and-such occasion, that’s exactly how you treated me using Party culture.”

Although I also recognized manifestations of Party culture in him and his parents, I wanted to focus on improving myself, so I replied, “I’ll change my behavior.”

In five days, we finished reading Dissolving Party Culture. We took a one-day break over the weekend to visit our daughter in the city. She treated us to a meal and encouraged us to keep studying diligently. We then resumed reading at the same intense pace and finished How the Specter of Communism Is Ruling Our World in seven days.

I paused at certain passages to relate them to current events. My husband listened and analyzed current affairs with me. In particular, before a certain high-ranking CCP official was arrested, he heard me discuss the various scenarios analyzed by practitioners outside of China. Consequently, when he saw the news, he once again remarked with admiration, “Dafa practitioners are truly amazing!”

We felt a sense of relief after we finished reading How the Specter of Communism Is Ruling Our World on the afternoon of January 31. The experience filled a significant gap in my knowledge and will surely help me to better clarify the facts about Falun Dafa to people. Besides his deep admiration for the editors of the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party series, my husband told me, “I finally understand why practitioners clarify the facts, which are difficult to explain fully in a few words. You are helping people. So why do some people report you after they hear the facts? I suppose they still don’t really understand.”

His words saddened me because Master taught us that, wherever problems arise, it’s because the facts have not been clarified sufficiently. Indeed, there were incidents where practitioners were reported in our hometown this winter by people who did not understand the facts.

As I wrote this sharing article, my husband was watching “News Broadcast,” a state-run news program. I heard him exclaim, “Now I can really spot the lies in the news.” I truly hope that more people can experience the same kind of joy my husband found.
