(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman in the Yanqing District of Beijing was sentenced to two and a half years with a 5,000-yuan fine in April 2021 for her faith in Falun Gong. Due to health reasons, she was placed under house arrest. The Yanqing District Court made multiple attempts to incarcerate her, but she was deemed unfit for detention every time.
Ms. Wang Chaoying has been repeatedly targeted since the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999. She was given three forced labor terms totaling six and a half years between 2002 and 2009. After another arrest on October 6, 2020, she went on a hunger strike in protest and was hospitalized three times.
Despite her condition, the Yanqing District Court held a virtual hearing of the case on April 20, 2021, with Ms. Wang attending from the Changping District Detention Center. She was taken to a police hospital right after the hearing. The doctors turned her away because her condition was too grave for their hospital to offer effective treatment. She was taken home in an ambulance. Her family noted she had lost over 50 pounds. They received her verdict ten days later. See the related reports for details.
After learning that Ms. Wang was still alive, the court began its attempt to put her in jail. On November 8, 2023, several clerks showed up at her home but were unable to take her into custody.
Yanqing District Domestic Security Office agents arrested Ms. Wang and her husband on September 23, 2024. The Changping District Detention Center declined to admit her, and she was released the next day. Her husband was detained for 15 days.
The court tried again on May 15, 2026, and still failed to put Ms. Wang in jail.
