(Minghui.org) A Shulan City, Jilin Province resident was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison at an unknown time to serve a three-year sentence. This is the second time that Ms. Zhao Jinlan has been sentenced for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhao, a widow who lived alone, was arrested on May 9, 2023. Minghui.org learned of her conviction and incarceration in late December 2024. It is unclear when she was indicted, tried, or sentenced.
Ms. Zhao was previously arrested on May 3, 2018, for putting up banners bearing information about Falun Gong. The police confiscated her computer, printer, and copy paper. She was taken to the Jilin City Detention Center the next day and tried by the Shulan City Court on August 23, 2018. She was later sentenced to 1.5 years with a 2-year probation and released on September 29, 2018.
Ms. Zhao was arrested two more times, on November 11, 2019 and in September 2020. She was held at a brainwashing center for five days in 2019, and ten days in 2020.
Ms. Zhao’s husband died during an accident at work when she was only in her 30s. She developed depression while caring for their teenage son by herself. She was later introduced to Falun Gong, and recovered not long afterwards. She took good care of her parents and won the respect of her siblings.
Eleven Other Practitioners Living on the Same Street Sentenced Since 2020
Since 2020, at least eleven other Falun Gong practitioners who live on the same Jishu Street as Ms. Zhao have been sentenced for their shared faith.
Mr. Zhu Zhaoshui, 70, Ms. Sun Limei, 55, and Ms. Zhu Lijie were arrested on September 10, 2019. They stood trial at the Shulan City Court on December 19, 2019, and were convicted at an unknown date. Mr. Shu and Ms. Sun were each given 3.5 years and Ms. Shu received 2 years with a 2-year probation.
Ms. Sun Shufen was arrested on March 1, 2022 and sentenced to 2 years with a 2,000-yuan fine in late November 2022.
Ms. Chen Qinglan, 71, was arrested on August 23, 2022 and sentenced to 2 years with a 3,000-yuan fine in early April 2023.
Ms. Liu Yinghua, 66, was arrested on June 4, 2023 and sentenced to one year with one year of probation in December 2023.
Mr. Yang Xingli was arrested in July 2023 and sentenced to 3.5 years around August 2024.
Three practitioners, including Ms. Jiang Yanping, 58, Ms. Liu Minjie, around 70, and Ms. Zhao Changyan, 66, were arrested on March 16, 2023. They stood trial on July 27 and October 26, 2023, before being convicted around February 2024. Ms. Jiang was sentenced to 5 years, Ms. Zhao was given 3.5 years, and Ms. Liu received 3 years with 4 years of probation.
Ms. Zhang Jinhua, 58, was arrested on June 2, 2024 and sentenced to 1.5 years with a 2-year probation in December 2024.
